Caring for Aging Parents – Brother’s and Sister’s Unite!

In his book, Plan While You Still Can – 16 End of Life Checklists You Need Now, Don Burrows emphasizes that families must unite to provide the care your aging loved one requires. There is the potential for egos and old childhood tensions to arise; however, you are all adult and need to find a common ground to work together.

Some responsibilities that might need to be addressed when planning to care for your parent:

  • Daily living arrangements
  • Grocery Shopping
  • Cleaning
  • Transportation to appointments
  • Arranging family visits for holidays, etc
  • Covering expenses

Keep in the mind, you are trying to come up with a workable solution for the parent, not you and your egos. Find ways to remove the hassle from your aging parent’s life. Providing care is tedious and can be emotionally draining, but only if you allow yourself to think of it in those terms. Balance is the key.
